Virtualization – extending my classroom

When students begin learning about new technology, there is an assumption that they already possess certain foundational skills: file management, the ability to download resources, Internet skills.

While mostly true – this cannot be assumed and I often test to see if they do. Giving them assignments and introductory activities to confirm.

However, one skill we cannot assume students have – it is increasingly critical – is the ability to create and run a Virtual Machine (VM).

To try and provide a resource to students I created a quick hour-long course in Virtualization on SkillShare.

What makes this handy is that SkillShare allows me to provide free links to the course for my real-life students, but also makes it available to a larger audience.

If this proves useful, I think I’ll create more foundational and extra credit courses.
